GUIDE TO DIFFERENT TYPES OF LEATHER, SUEDE, SHEEPSKIN AND SHEARLING SKINS
Leather and Suede Jackets and Coats
LAMB or SHEEP NAPPA.
These skins are extremely soft and supple, combining superior comfort with excellent durability. A Lamb Nappa leather jacket or coat can easily last 15 to 20 years or more, as long as it is given reasonable care!
Cowhide skins are much heavier than Lamb or Sheep Nappa and are usually used for heavy duty Motorcycle Leather jackets. We now also stock other men's jacket and Parka styles in these exceptionally hard wearing skins. But please remember they are far heavier garments.
PIGSKIN SUEDE or LEATHER.
These skins are similar in weight to Sheep Nappa, but are usually lower in price. We only choose the best of these skins and still give our extended guarantee with any garment made from them.
KIDSKIN or GOATSKIN SUEDE.
Incredibly soft and light weight and ideal for special luxury jackets or coats that can be worn in the warmer months of the year. They come in a wonderful selection of colours and styles and we supply a free Care Pack with each garment that protects them from rain or stain damage. We make both ladies and men's garments from these superb skins.
This looks similar to Suede but is harder wearing. These skins have a wonderfully soft, supple feel and we advise using a protector spray such as Scotch Guard to avoid rain spots or staining.
Sheepskin and Shearling Coats and Jackets
These are exceptionally soft, lightweight skins with a luxurious long hair that looks similar to fur, but is in fact Lambskin. They are wonderfully warm, but are often considered better used for smaller size coats because the long hair can make the garment look more bulky.
Ultra soft and incredibly light weight yet wonderfully warm. One of our customers from Canada sent us an email saying that she was wearing her Merino coat in severe sub zero temperatures and yet was still lovely and warm! If you want a slim look in a warm winter coat, these are the perfect answer!
These are heavier than the other skins and are usually used nowadays for flying jackets. They are exceptionally hard wearing and very warm, but due to their weight are better used for shorter length jackets.
These skins are smaller lighter weight sheepskin. Perfect for slim looking coats in all sizes and lengths. Despite their light weight, they are still wonderfully warm and will give many, many years of good wear.
No man-made fabric gives the same natural warmth as sheepskin! Whether it's the heavy duty Sheepskin Flying Jackets, or the new ultra soft lightweight Shearling Jackets and coats, nothing else looks or feels the same, or lasts as long!
